Kings win over Schneiders 5-4

Thursday December 17, 2009 – UMass Boston

With only two players on the bench, the Kings escaped with a 5-4 win over the Schneiders last night. The temperature, late start and crummy venue didn’t deter 7 hardy Kings from coming out to play, as the Kings took an early 1-0 lead in the first and held the lead throughout, despite some good chances by the opposition. Credit Ed with stealing the game for the Kings, who played some porous defense but managed to hold on. At the other end the Kings got a ton of great opportunities and made the most of a number of them. Paul got the scoring started on a feed from Greg, and the Kings held a 1-0 advantage until midway through the 2nd when Greg broke through again on a pass from Burger. Schneiders got on the board but the Kings reestablished the two goal lead when Greg broke in on the left wing and fired it to Jeff on the tape, who buried it high glove side. Jeff had another one that was called back due to a crease infraction, and Schneiders potted another to bring it back within two. Greg and Fran got two more, Fran’s one of his coast to coast jobs, and after that the Kings fell into a defensive shell trying to run out the clock. Schneiders got one more with their goalie on the bench to bring it within one, but the Kings managed to hold on for the win.

I have the updated stats that just need some formatting, they will be posted tonight or tomorrow. Paul and Burger are in the lead with 7-5-12 and 3-5-8 lines, respectively.

Great win by The Kings last night. The 2 points put us in a tie for 3rd place with The Brown Club, but we have a game in hand on them.

We play the Schneiders again next Wed, Dec 23rd. We need a definitive head count as we want to skate ideally 10 guys (more are always welcome, but unlikely due to the holidays).

So far I know the following players cannot make the game:
- John
- Burger

The following players can make the game:
- Ed
- Bryan
- Greg
- Paul
- Fran
- Frank
- Jeff

Therefore, we need to have the following players let us know if they are definitively playing:
- Josh
- Bermie
- Bob
- Alan
- Ian (I think he already said that he will not be there but please confirm)
- Pete
-Wally

Don’t worry if you cannot play as we can get enough players if we know the number in advance. Fran’s son and my son are both home for the holidays and can play. However, I do not want extra players if we can avoid it. Again, 10 Kings would be ideal.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

We need to keep winning to keep up with the Pirates and the Maple Leafs.

Good win with a short bench. FYI, not that it makes a huge difference, but the scoring last night went pretty close to this:

Paul (unassisted)
Greg (Fran)
Jeff (Greg)
Greg (Paul)
Fran (unassisted ?)

Don’t be padding Burgers stats with phantom assists.

I know that it looked like I was all over the ice, but Greg is right I should only have 6 points if you include the prior game. Just give me credit for the prior game 1 goal and 1 assist. Give Allan the same state line…not sure about the rest. GL next week. Standout performances by Frank and Fran last night.

It might not have been our best game, but a win is a win is a win.

Bermy and Bob will be at the upcoming game on Wedneday (12/23).

Greg is correct. The 2nd goal was Greg from me. Sorry Burger. Maybe my 9 looks like an 8. Frank assisted on my goal.

All things considered, I thought everyone (especially Ed) had a strong game up until the last two minutes when we ran out of gas. A win is a win and we’ll take it. No good having games in hand unless you win them. So let’s have a better turnout next week and start a winning steak.

Solid effort all around and props to Frank for the blocked shot with a wide opened net – saved a goal. We let them back in at the end, but by that time it was 11:45 and two degrees outside. Anything can happen in those conditions. Not our fault

Dear Kings,

Please stop beating yourselves up. We won!!!! We only had 7 skaters and we were missing 2 of our 4 defensemen, not to mention many of our speedy and/or scoring players.

I loved our victory, our two points, moving into a tie for 3rd place with still another game in hand! Scoring was spread out among the majority of our team and everyone (yes everyone) contributed to the win.

Now we want to get another win next week and move into sole possession of 3rd place.

So be pleased with this week’s win, then forget that game and focus on winning next Wed night!

So who will be at the game? We have 8 so far and would like to have 2 more skaters to make 10.
