Kings drop playoff opener to Bucs 3-1
Thursday September 17, 2009 – Asiaf Arena
Jeff scored the lone goal for the Kings as the offense couldn’t hold up its end of the deal, and the Kings fell to the Bucs 3-1. Both sides had a hard time setting up any sustained offense, but the Bucs made more of their opportunities, spoiling a solid start in net for Ed. After going down 1-0 the Kings tied it up quickly when a rebound from an odd-man rush caromed out to Jeff in the right faceoff dot, who buried it for the equalizer. The Kings would fall behind again when a failed clearing attempt was scooped up by a Bucs forechecker, who passed it off to a winger crashing the net on the weak side and buried it. The Kings thought they had the tying goal again when a shot at the end of the 2nd beat the Bucs goalie, only for the refs to call it a no-goal as time expired before it went in. The Kings got a couple of decent chances in the third but couldn’t make it happen, and the Bucs added an extra goal with a minute left to seal the win.
The Kings have to play out of the losers’ bracket now, facing Rush next Wednesday at 10:40pm back in Brockton.
