Kings lose to Check Republic 5-3*
* actually 5-2
Tuesday December 9, 2008 – Walter Brown Arena
After stretching out a two goal lead (which should have been three thanks to an absurd high stick call on a beauty redirect for Greg), the King defense let in 5 unanswered goals en route to a lackluster loss against Check Republic. After Greg tapped down a shot from the point and had the goal disallowed, Jeff got the Kings on the board to stay, potting a short pass from John who muscled his way around a defender near the crease. Bob then hit Paul with a beautiful pass as he got behind the D, and Paul took the puck in and deked the goalie for another nice goal. However that’s all the Kings would manage as they gave up 5 goals on odd-man rushes including two 2-on-1s and two clear breakaways. The Kings defense was porous at best, leaving Ed to deal with many more fast breaks (including a few shorthanded) that he managed to stop over and over, and the passing game never really got going. In the 3rd the Kings managed to put more shots on net but still couldn’t get past the Check Republic’s standup goalie.
