A full Kings bench (minus only Bermy) put together a strong three period effort to defeat the River Rats 5-0 at Dedham on Monday night. Kings jumped out to an early lead, but it was only 2-0 at the end of the first, and 3-0 at the end of the second. Pete had a pair or goals and several chances to make it a hat trick. Paul had a back breaking goal in the 3rd off a nice feed from Greg.  A five man defensive force of Fran, Bryan, Ian, Bob, and Frank limited the River Rats chances, and Ed stopped everything else. Further, Ed stood strong when the opponents got frustrated at their lack of goals and started crashing the net. Don’t think the Kings had any power plays, but killed several penalties. Alan had a tremendous backhand chance through a screen in the middle of the third but an able River Rat goaltender made a crazy glove save. Kings forwards did a great job getting in on the forecheck and keeping their sticks in passing lanes forcing bad passes and deflecting good passes. There was no Kings after party.
It goes without saying, but the game was fairly terribly officiated. And the scorekeeper lady didn’t even know how to put the penalties up on the board (That thing can’t really be that difficult to figure out, can it?!?!?!?!). I mean, she’s just got to put the time up, stop the time of occasion, and throw up penalties.  WTF?Kings look to end the Icemen’s season (again) on a losing note tomorrow night at Canton.  Good luck, I’ll be in class.

Don’t see too many shutouts in the NESHL, especially in the playoffs. Great defensive team effort. But it all starts from the crease out, so all props go to Ed. I think there might have been like two rebounds all game.

Nice win boys, a solid effort from everyone last night. I’ll do my best to be at the game tonight, but with the way my job has been lately I can’t make any promises. Either way, let’s finish the season on a high note.

That was a team shut out, the D blocked a shitload of shots and stopped a ton of passes in close.

Yes, we won 6-3. Six goals scored by 6 different players. Ed was stellar and we outplayed the Icemen for most of the game. Many great plays but the true tipping point was when we were winning 3-2 in the third period and we were a man down. Greg stole the puck at our offensive blue line with a great stick sweep check and walked in alone on their goalie. He leaned right and faked going to the upper right corner, the goalie went with the fake and Greg buried it in the upper left hand corner to have us go up 4-2. Another key play was when we were winning 4-3 late in the game and John picked up the puck in the neutral zone and stick-handled around and through three Icemen to score a great goal. Fran received the Kings’ “Best Assist-Man” patch as he set up numerous goals, the last being a slap shot to the goalie’s jugular which Alan knocked in the net on the rebound. I would be remiss if I did not highlight Wally’s critical goal to get the Kings on the board early in the game. Lastly, Ian brilliantly ordered the pizzas for the after party. Of course he needed Greg to handle the finances. Great way to end the summer season and we all look forward to starting the winter season, in late September, by continuing The Kings’ winning ways!

I can’t believe I missed this epic victory! Way to go. I figure we won’t play again until the middle of September so I’ll see you guys around.

Shouldn’t Ian be buying Greg pizzas?

Nice job men!
Too bad we didn’t make it to the finals, maybe these last 2 games were where we finally turned the corner.
See you all in a few weeks for the start of the winter season.

Wally asked me to speak on his behalf kind of like accepting an Oscar when out of town and say he will teach us all his pinball shot for the winter season.
