Kings snatch defeat from the jaws of victory; lose to Anarchy 5-4 in OT

Thursday August 21, 2008 – Dedham Ice Arena

The Kings watched a 4-0 first period lead evaporate over the later frames, culminating with Anarchy scoring the tying goal with just under a minute to play in the game, forcing overtime. In OT the Kings managed some decent chances, but a two on one the other way saw the puck bounce into the net and sent the Kings into the loss column in the playoffs. After a strong, dominating first period, the Kings fell back on their heels with bad play in the neutral zone and irresponsible penalties in an otherwise tight game.

The Kings get a chance at redemption on Monday night, facing off against the River Rats back in Dedham at 10:10pm.

The Icemen, who beat the River Rats 8-2, play Anarchy on Sunday. If Anarchy wins, we are out and they will most likely be in the championship game. However, I bet that the Icemen beat Anarchy. If we beat the River Rats on Monday, we and Anarchy both will be 1-1, and the Icemen will be 2-0. We play the Icemen on Tuesday night. A victory will most likely leave the three of us all at 2-1. Bryan, what are the tie-breaking rules after head on head competition? Is it goal differential? WHAT WE NEED TO DO, AND CAN DO, IS WIN ON MONDAY NIGHT AGAINST THE RIVER RATS. AFTER THAT, OVER BEER AND PIZZA, WE CAN DISCUSS THE NEXT STEPS. WE CAN DO THIS AS I HAVE NOT SEEN A TEAM THAT WE CANNOT BEAT THIS SUMMER. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING EVERYONE ON MONDAY NIGHT!
