Kings lose to shorthanded Kennedy Club, 6-4
Wednesday August 13, 2008 – Walter Brown Arena
Another late comeback attempt fell short as the Kings climbed within a goal of Kennedy Club, only to lose in the final seconds. Despite having just 6 skaters to the Kings’ 11, Kennedy Club had the quicker legs and better passing, stretching out a 4-0 lead by the end of the first. They were content to sit on the lead in the 2nd and 3rd and didn’t face much challenge from an exhausted Kings squad, who couldn’t get to the bounces and loose pucks fast enough. Fran finally broke the shutout late in the 2nd with an end to end rush and put the puck to his backhand and then behind regular Kings sub Keith McArt. Late in the third the Kings started putting together some good offensive pressure and managed to score 3 goals in the span of just a few minutes, including a nifty roofer from Bob right on the doorstep. With Ed on the bench for the extra skater, however, the Kings couldn’t keep the puck in the offensive end and Kennedy Club notched an empty-netter with seconds left to seal the win. Ed as usual had some amazing stops, including a couple of pad stacks that turned away almost guaranteed goals, but couldn’t hold down the fort with the defense in front of him off its game.
The Kings close out the summer session against the Icemen before moving into the playoffs, where we look forward to playing teams that are in the same division.
