Kings Snatch Defeat From Victory, lose to Dawgs 3-5

7/2/08, ASIAF:  Kings fell behind 0-2 early and never led in another summer loss. Despite carrying the play for the majority of the game, the Kings couldn’t solve a big solid Dawgs goaltender, peppering him with shots from all over the ice, and missing the net during key chances.  One of the officials was absolutely horrendous, but in the end the bad calls probably sort of evened out.  The Dawg did not have much sustained pressure in the Kings zone, but they made their chances count. The Daws scored in several ways: at the end of a power play after a turnover behind the Kings net, shorthanded, with a missed shot off the lively backboard, on a fiercely back-checked broken play through a screen, and on the odd man rush.  Bounces just weren’t going the Kings way; it was a difficult defeat.  Josh had a wide open goal back door late in the third, and Paul scored on a tip in on fast break. Sorry, but I don’t remember who scored the first goal, but Bob appeared to be on a 2-1.  John also scored a goal the refs weren’t in position to count.

Bryan in on vacation for the majority of July from what I understand, so I will be running the show while Bryan is abroad.  Please let me (Frank) know if you are unable to make the games, are going to be late, etc.

Remember, next game is at a new rink, so allow yourself some extra time.

The Bruins have no interest in winning hockey games, just selling hot dogs. At least hopefully this will end the Glen Murray era in Boston (Bs don’t really need another ‘phantom’ sniper wing who can barely skate or play defense). From an article today about the Bs latest free agent mistake, Mike Ryder:

“Overpaid big,” one scout said of the contract the former Canadiens forward signed with the Bruins Tuesday

During the postseason, Ryder sat out three of the seven first-round games against the Bruins. In 70 regular-season games, he scored a career-low 14 goals with 17 assists, averaging 13:14 of ice time. Ryder was nonexistent on Montreal’s top-ranked power play, where he scored only once while averaging 2:07 of ice time per game. One scout classified Ryder as a one-dimensional goal scorer who doesn’t play defense.

“A one-dimensional player that if he’s not scoring, he doesn’t do anything else. He started the year in a slump, and on a team that plays up-tempo, he became not a [Guy] Carbonneau guy because suspect work ethic and skating issues were magnified with lack of scoring[.]”

Frank – I can’t seem to find your email address, but if I do I’ll send you an email as well. I’m out for this week’s game. Hopefully you can destroy those Icebergs and get us back on the winning track.
