Kings Flounder, Early Exit From Playoffs

The Kings were flying high after an overtime victory to start the playoffs, but were promptly eliminated with back to back losses to the Young Guns (5-6 Wednesday) and the Brandeis Judges (2-5 Thursday). The second loss perhaps being the worst lost in Kings’ playoff history, marking our earliest exit.  Back-to-back affairs appeared to be too much for a weary Kings team that laid it all out in the Wednesday game.

There is no shame in losing a tight game to a solid Young Guns team, but it was very disappointing to lose to an inferior Judges team that had previously never beaten the Kings.  Unfortunately, the biggest games of the year were filled with lackluster, uninspired play in all three zones, up and down the roster (but with occasional flashes of brilliance).  The Kings did not lead for one second in the final two games. Tough to win when you are always playing catch up.  Too many turnovers, no puck luck, and certainly too many penalties.

All the Kings extend their thoughts and prayers to our fallen captain Bryan. The team was clearly adrift Thursday night without Bryan holding down the blue line. Get well bud.

No word yet on the summer season but I’m sure the first few games will be posted when they trickle in. Get your checkbook ready.

If people are bailing out for the summer, please speak up and let us know so we can plan accordingly.

I encourage everyone to spend some time away from the rink and rest up, so we can come flying out of the gates in the Summer.

Cheers.

Wow, tough loss. Once again the winter playoffs get us. We had a great second half though, good season guys.

Thanks for the kind words Frank. The docs are just being cautious, I should be ready to go for the summer.

Tough way to end the season, but we didn’t deserve to win that one.

Despite the loss it was great to play with you guys and I already am looking forward to another championship summer season.

Good luck with the tests Bryan, I’m sure everything will turn out fine.

Enjoy the time off boys.

First, and most importantly, our prayers and best wishes to Bryan. We missed you last night and we know that you will be back in May, stronger than ever. I am glad that you did not have to witness the lack-luster effort that was generated by The Kings last night. That would have broken your heart!

We played like the Anaheim Ducks against Dallas. Little effort, little scoring, little results. The only positive is that we all played consistently poorly last night. The one notable exception was Ed, who stopped about 5 break-aways in the 3rd period.

The good news is that we played great hockey the second half of the regular season (8-1-1). We can build on that.

Enjoy the next few weeks and I look forward to having a strong run for the summer championship !

Again, Bryan (or Brian as #20 would spell it), here’s to a speedy and healthy recovery!

All the best,
Jeff

Hope things are well Brian/Bryan.

Sad ending, but looking forward to the summer season. It will be interesting to see who wins the winter. bermy did a good job hedging himself this year.

Brawlers beat Young Guns 4-3 on Friday to remain the only undefeated team so far.
