Kings win over Icemen in shootout, 3-2

Tuesday April 8, 2008 – Bavis Arena

The Kings won a thriller to open the playoffs against the Icemen last night. Burger got the scoring going early in the first, getting his own rebound all alone in front, and John added to the lead in the second, but after that the offense dried up. The Icemen, meanwhile, scored twice in the third to force overtime. After a few decent chances in OT, the game went to a shootout. Bermy scored on the 4th shot, but the Icemen finally got a goal past Jim Tucci, filling in admirably for the Kings and turning away almost all other shots. After a great stop on the next Icemen shooter, Greg took the puck and went five hole on the Icemen goalie to seal the win.

The Kings move into the winner’s bracket and will play Wednesday April 16th, 10:10pm at Quincy Youth Arena against the winner of the Young Guns/Diablo game.

Last note – congratulations to Eric Hamburger on the birth of his daughter earlier in the day.

I want to thank Jim Tucci as well for filling in at the last minute. I’m sure he didn’t think he was signing up for an OT/Shootout situation, but he came through big time. Watch out Ed.

nice win. too many penalties allowed them to claw back into the game. No Lady Bing’s will be handed out this year! Thanks for winning one for my kid!

Jim certainly raised the bar for King’s fill-in goalies. Outstanding.
Greg’s shootout goal was certainly an all-time King’s frozen moment (which might be a great addition to the Kings hall of fame page).
Hopefully we can keep the momentum going next week, and maybe pot a few more goals.
With Ian out of the line-up, Bermy should be playing for the Kings.

And congrats to Burger. I have no idea how your wife let you out of the house for a hockey game.
