Kings collapse in 3rd period, lose to River Rats 2-3
Tuesday December 11, 2007 – Walter Brown Arena
Two goals usually isn’t enough to win in the NESHL, and it wasn’t on Tuesday. Despite a stellar goaltending effort turned in by Ed and goals by Pete and Wally Ciovacco, the Kings let a 2-0 lead disappear in the third and lost to the River Rats 3-2.
The Kings got the scoring started early, with Wally knocking in a puck in the first. Later it was Pete scoring on a deflected clearing pass, scooping it up and sliding the puck under the goalie’s pads for a 2-0 lead. Neither team had really great chances after that until the third, when a questionable penalty call put the River Rats on the power play, and with three of their players in the crease and Ed pushed back into the net, a River Rats player scooped a loose puck and roofed it over the scrum in the crease. Initially ruled no goal, the blue line referee overruled the ref on the goal line and the goal stood. The River Rats would add to the tally on another questionable penalty call against the Kings, and the game winner came on a 3 on 0 after several failed clearing attempts in our own zone.
