Kings tie Hawks, 3-3
Sunday October 7, 2007 – UMass Boston
A Kings team missing most of its scoring punch erased a two goal lead with less than four minutes in the game and salvaged a tie against a tough B-level team at UMass last night. With only three players on the bench and two defenseman playing most of the game, the Kings turned out a classic effort, behind solid goaltending and defensive play. Frank got the scoring started, one-timing a shot short side from the left faceoff circle after Bermy fed him from behind the net. The Kings held this lead until late into the 2nd when the Hawks finally broke through. The Hawks took advantage of the only real defensive lapses, putting themselves up 3-1 early in the third. Ed came up huge on a few plays to keep the Kings in it, including a great slide to smother a shot from the far corner of the crease. After calling a timeout with about six minutes to play, Paul broke through to cut the lead, setting the stage for the last minute and a half. With the faceoff at the left circle in the offensive zone and Ed on the bench for the extra attacker, Frank and Bob did a great job keeping the puck in the zone near the blue line after Frank’s shot was blocked, getting it down low for Bermy and Greg. A shot from the slot was blocked and came out to Mike, who fired it into the net over the sprawling goalie with just over a minute left.
