Kings over LPC, 7-2

Thursday September 6, 2007 – Walter Brown Arena

Despite a slow start and a stunning performance by the LPC goalie, the Kings eventually wore down LPC and took the 2nd playoff game, 7-2. Josh had a hat trick and Jeff factored on all but two of the Kings goals in the midst of a totally dominating offensive performance by the forwards. The score could easily have been 14-2 if not for the outstanding play of the LPC goalie, who just flat out robbed just about everyone at one point or another.

If our playoff math works out, the win over LPC and Icebergs means that we can finish no lower than 2nd and thus have guaranteed ourselves a berth in the championship game. The championship game is scheduled for Thursday, September 20th in Canton at 9:10pm.

Our third game playoff game, against the Cobras, is next Friday, September 14th in Canton at 9:10pm.

Actually, if the Icebergs beat the Cobras tonight and we lose our game to the Cobras then all three teams will be 2-1 and who knows what convoluted means of breaking that tie Paul will use. So lets beat the Cobras next week and we won’t have to worry about it.

Great win last night! We should also thank Ed who came up big with 3 huge saves when the score was 2-2. Also, Frank played his best two-way hockey of the season.

Technically, if the Icebergs beat the Cobras tonight, and we lose to the Cobras next week (not happening), there will be a 3-way tie for first (all at 2-1). Head to head will not work as we will have each beaten each other. They will then look at Goals Against. Currently, we have 4 and Iceberg has 5 (after 2 games). The Cobras have zero GA (with only 1 game played) with their forfeit from LPC.

Therefore, if the Cobras beat Iceberg, we automatically will be in the finals against the Cobras. If the Cobras lose, we want the game to be a high scoring event!

Regardless of all of the above, all we need to do is win next Friday (and we will)!

Fran had a great idea having two lines of 4 forwards. That worked well.

Thanks,
Jeff

Cobras beat Iceberg 3-2 in O.T. Therefore, we will play the Cobras on Friday 9/14 for the round robin, and then again on 9/20 for the Championship.
