Kings tie Leftovers 4-4

Tuesday May 22, 2007 – Pilgrim Arena

The Kings scored two goals with less than 45 seconds to play to steal a point from a tough team in the Leftovers last night. Both teams came out flying but it was the Leftovers who got on the board first. After Jeff tied it midway through the first the Leftovers extended their lead to 3-1 on a couple of tough goals. The score at that point could’ve been 8-1 if it weren’t for another stellar game from Ed, who kicked out most of the shots he saw and completely robbed a Leftover player on a breakaway with an ESPN-worthy glove save.

The Kings pulled within one in the third after a fast break save by the Leftover goaltender bounced out to Burger, who buried it in the open net. However the Leftovers came right back, scoring on another breakaway to push the lead back to two. It stayed that way until Josh scored with about 40 seconds to play. With Ed on the bench for the extra attacker, Fran drew an elbow penalty on the ensuing faceoff, giving us a 6 on 4 faceoff in the offensive zone. After the Leftovers managed to clear, Bob and Bermy carried the puck back into the Leftovers’ zone, and after a couple of shots that were frozen by the goalie, the last faceoff proved crucial as a shot from the point bounced in on the goalie who made the save on the right corner of the crease. Jeff gathered the puck and found John moving across the crease, who chipped it in with about 2.5 seconds left on the clock to tie the game.

It was a great team effort to win the game. It feels like a win not a tie.

Solid team effort, but Ed went above and beyond with some of those saves and gave us a chance in the end.
Where are the missing Kings (Pete, Mike, Alan)? Will you guys be there next game? I think several people weren’t going to be able to make it so come on out. I think we’re playing a good team, should be fun.
