A referee with a god complex was enough distraction for the Kings, falling to the Icebergs 3-1 at Northeastern last week. After the early lead the Kings fell victim to a series of baffling penalty calls, including one where the referee got not just the number wrong, but also the jersey color, putting the captain in the box for a penalty that never happened to either team. Despite the penalties and the two separate 5-on-3 power plays for the Icebergs, the Kings couldn’t get the offense in gear for sustained efforts.

Not that it matters in this terrible game, but for the record books Jeff Garrity #17 had the lone tally of the night, and give Alan Belmore #5 the assist. And I would just like to reiterate Bryans comments, that one ref. was the WORST referee, I’ve ever seen, EVER! At least 3 INCORRECT CALLS, Bryans penalty, the icing, and the offsides at the end of the game which they scored on. Those calls weren’t bad calls they were wrong calls. Not to mention the bad calls, petes penalties, Frans kid got interfered with at the end, which they scored on, and I forget what else.
Irregardless, our team should be scoring enough goals where the quality of refereeing isn’t a factor, we should be killing teams like the icebergs…

Holy Shit! The Kings have witness some poor officiating over the years (always letting them know about it), but that squeaky voiced guy single handedly set a new low. Even the calls on the other team were highly questionable. The only thing they got right was the net off on the goal Paul scored at the end and a couple offsides. From screwing up the icing on the penalty kill, to giving the other team two 5-3s, it was the worst officiated game I’ve ever seen in any league. Was that guy drunk, blind, retarded? All three? Bryan, I’m not sure if it would matter but you might want to e-mail the league and express our disgust.
But in the end you don’t win a lot of games scoring one goal. The other team was rarely in our end for the entire second half of the game. We had a lot of chances, but we need to bury them, and if not, hit the net. No rebounds for Burger to clean up when we keep missing the net.
But the good news is that we have a shot at those guys again next week. Let’s break out of this funk, score some goals, and get a winning streak going into the playoffs.

I fixed up the scoring Al – they couldn’t even call the goal right.
The league already heard from me, but Paul hasn’t said anything back. I told him we weren’t complaining that he cost us the game or anything, but he was a moron and totally out of control (the near-altercation he had with Pete at the end of the game was beyond the pale). The penalty on me was flat out the worst call ever; not only did he get the wrong guy, there was no penalty at all. I didn’t get touched when I got to that puck, and how the hell do you call interference on a guy playing the puck carrier anyway? I told Paul that he should at the very least watch the next game he officiates and see for himself, as we can’t be the only team getting screwed by this guy.
Otherwise I encourage everyone to go to the NESHL bulletin board here, sign up and voice your own displeasure. At the very least it gives other teams and players a heads up on the guy.
Yeah I can easily say that was the worst officiated game I’ve been a part of. Still, we need to get our passing going again and win the battles in the corners. Puck possession deep in the O zone and breakouts are how you kill teams in this league. We have that talent, we just need to kick it back into gear. The goals will follow.
