Wednesday, February 28, 2007 – UMass Boston
The new jerseys arrived, but all we can say is the Kings looked pretty slick losing to the Wolverines, 2-4. Alex Vasserman filled in for Ed who’s traveling on business but the Kings couldn’t make a 2-1 lead hold up, suffering our first loss since before Christmas. Josh got the Kings on the board in the 1st, scooping up a rebound for the score. Pete got the next one on a feed from Bob but that would be all the scoring we’d muster as the Wolverines goalie shut us down, kicking out most shots that made it through the Wolverines D, which really locked down on 2nd chances. The Wolverines went ahead on a shot from the point that got redirected on our goalie and that’s all they’d need, scoring an empty-netter with seconds left in the game.

Well, it wasn’t our best game. But I think we carried the play for most of the game, and had some chances but missed the net. I’m sure we’ll rebound with a strong game next week.
Not sure when I’ll be back but I’ll likely see everyone in a couple weeks.
Come home Ed!

Yeah, unfortunately all our usual goalie fill-ins were unavailable so I had to go to the MassGoalies list, and we tend not to have good luck with guys we get from there. Seemed to me like we were all a little twitchy on defense and that kinda screwed with our game. That being said, their goalie made the big stops he needed to (he robbed Pete and Ian on two separate chances) and their defense kept us from getting good shots on…bottom line is you don’t win many hockey games scoring 2 goals.

Hey guys, I really enjoyed playing with you last night… sorry for the silly mistakes that caused the game/tie. No excuses, just hopefully if you’re in a bind again, you can go to me and I promise my performance will be better next time.
Good luck with the season
Alex

Not usually the goalie’s fault when a team loses 3-2 :) Its all good, if we win the next three we have first place locked down. Lets bring it

Hey I seem to remember a tall guy in a #8 jersey taking a nice pass on the far post and missing on a wide open net…
I don’t know who else was down low at the time, but even though Ian got robbed on the wraparound, the goalie was deep in the net when he made the save and that should’ve counted. Of course if the ref was actually on the goal line where he was supposed to be, he might have seen that.
We’re in the driver’s seat for the regular season championship. If my math is right, all we need is 3 points out of the next 3 games to win first – that’s assuming the Icepack sweep the rest of their season, and we’d win the tiebreak against them because of a better head to head record (hard to believe we’re 2-1-0 against them this season).

One other good point of the game was that by a Alan actually passed me the puck on my stick for the first time in 3 seasons. Good job Al.

We are all very proud of Alan’s passing game. On the pass I missed. I score on 95% of those. That pass just happened to hit the 5%….
