Kings beat KPMG 6-1

Tuesday June 23, 2009 - Canton Sportsplex

The Kings turned in a solid team effort and Ed was near-perfect in a 6-1 win over KPMG on Tuesday. John scored two goals, including one off a beautiful feed from Paul that he roofed short side. Greg assisted on 4 of the Kings’ 6 goals (especially impressive as he was back on defense), highlighting a solid passing game all around. The Kings had a 4-0 lead and looked to be solidly in control before KPMG got on the board with a long range slapshot for the only shot Ed didn’t turn aside. Overall a solid team effort in all zones - the only downside was Paul left the game after a neck strain after taking a spill in the offensive zone.

Help the fight against Cancer - Support Bryan in the PMC

As many of you know, I am riding in the 2009 Pan-Mass Challenge, a two-day, 180-mile bike event raising money for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute. The PMC donates 100% of the money towards treatment for needy pediatric cancer patients, and also towards researching better detection, treatment and cures of many types of cancer. For more facts on how your donations are put to work, please see the PMC’s factsheet here.

I am just about halfway to my goal of $5,000 and I still could use your help. You can write a check made out to the Jimmy Fund and hand it to me at a game or mail it, or you can click the PMC image on the right to donate securely online with your credit card.

Thanks to those of you who have already generously given for this cause, and for your support.

Kings complete comeback, defeat Icemen 7-6

The Kings came out flat in an early game after a long warm-up. After spotting the Icemen a 4-1 lead after the first period (two goals for Rodriguez on very similar plays in the first five minutes), the Kings wore a short-benched tired Icemen squad down in the second period. Wally drew a penalty about halfway through the second and a key power play goal sparked a Kings’ offensive outburst to tie it up heading into the third. Shout out to the lone ref who definitely missed the Kings playing with an extra skater for well over thirty seconds. Further, great to see the Kings stay out of the sin bin for an entire game.
Pate scored through a scrum around new to knot the score at 6-6 with about five minutes to go. John scored the game winner (assists to Paul and Greg) on an improbable three-on-none. The Kings pretty much kept the Icemen pinned in their zone the final two minutes.
It wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take the win. Good to see Alan back in the line-up. Hopefully Fran can return for next week’s game with KPMG White. Hard to believe we scored so many goals without Burger in the line-up.
